Agents

Costs and limitsyou see what it costs, and you set the ceiling.

An agent's thinking and paid tools are charged to its home space's wallet as it works, and its computer on Wakato's cloud is billed only while it is awake. You can cap what each agent spends per day, week or month, and pause it at any time.

An agent costs money only when it does something. Its thinking, the paid tools it uses (images, voice, web search, texts, calls) and the time its computer is awake are all charged to the wallet of the space it belongs to. Nothing is charged to a space by surprise: the New agent window says which wallet pays before you press Create, and every charge lands in the space's wallet history.

You stay in control with a spending cap for each agent, the space's own limits, and a Pause button.

How it works

What you pay for

WhatHow it is charged
ThinkingEach reply's AI model use, charged to the home space's wallet. An agent on Claude Code, Codex, Grok or OpenCode thinks on your own account with that company, so no space pays for its thinking.
Paid toolsImages, video, voice, web search, paid services, texts and calls, each charged when used.
Its computerAn agent on Wakato's cloud runs on its own computer, billed per second while awake. A sleeping computer costs nothing.
External ReachReplies on the phone, website, text, email and social are charged like any other reply, plus what the line costs.

Awake only when needed

An agent's computer sleeps when nobody needs it. It wakes when you open its chat, or when a message or task arrives, and it goes back to sleep a few minutes after the work is done and you have left the chat. A task in progress is never stopped halfway because of a limit; limits apply to the next start.

The agent's page shows This month: its hours awake and what they cost.

A new agent on Wakato's cloud starts with its computer time capped at $50 a month.

Browsers are off until needed

An agent has its own Chrome browser, and it is turned off by default. It turns on only when the agent needs to browse for a task, or when you press Turn on in its browser panel. Extra shared browsers in Backstage → Browsers are billed only while open, and cost nothing when closed.

Plans

Agents on Wakato's cloud need Pro (up to 3) or Business (no limit). On Business you can also run agents on a computer of your own. Every plan pays for AI use from the wallet.

Paid steps can ask first

In What it may do you can make an agent ask before it runs a paid service or generates images, video or voice. Making another agent asks first by default, because every agent is a cost.

Spending cap

Every agent has its own Spending cap card on its page. You can set a cap per day, per week and per month; leave a box empty for no cap. Everything the agent causes counts: its thinking, paid tools, computer time and External Reach. The space's own limits still apply.

When it reaches a cap, it stops spending and a line appears in its chat with Raise. The space's owner and admins are notified. It carries on when the next day, week or month starts, or right away if you raise the cap.

External Reach also has a Spend a day limit on each platform row.

Pausing

Pause on the agent's page is the middle ground between keeping and deleting an agent. Nothing is lost and nothing is reset. While it is paused:

  • Its chat still takes messages; they wait for it.
  • Nothing wakes it, and its computer stays asleep, so it costs nothing.
  • Its repeating scheduled tasks are skipped; one-off tasks wait and run when it resumes.
  • It stays silent on every External Reach platform.

Press Resume and it reads what it missed. A paused public agent pauses its helper agents too.
